Workplace violence & agression
In any environment, whether a workplace, school, or public venue, the safety of individuals during an emergency is paramount. Emergency evacuation drills are a crucial part of ensuring preparedness and minimising risks when unforeseen events occur. These exercises simulate emergency scenarios, allowing participants to practice evacuation procedures in a controlled and safe setting.
At Wilcons we can tailor exercises and scenarios that will provide a safe but relevant experience to engage your team. These need to be focused on allowing your team to participate and learn.
Our exercises and scenario sessions will be designed off your risk profile. This will make the process relevant to your business and engaging for your team.
We can deliver these exercises in person or by remote (online). We have successfully delivered some complex exercise/scenarios by remote which may save you money.
Incident/Crisis Management Exercises
for organisations that have their own Incident Management Team structure, the importance of exercises cannot be overstated.
Most organisations with an Incident Management Team will have exercise requirements under your plan.
Let Wilcons help prepare your team, as a prepared team is an effective team.
Risk Management
Evacuation & Lockdown Drills
Evacuation and lockdown drills are practices conducted in schools, workplaces, and other institutions to prepare for an emergency situation where individuals need to shelter in place to protect themselves from threats, such as an active shooter, natural disaster, or other dangerous scenarios. The goal of these drills is to ensure that everyone knows what to do in case of an actual emergency, minimizing panic and confusion.
Workplace Violence & Aggression
Workplace violence and aggression refer to harmful behaviors that occur in a professional setting, often resulting in physical or psychological harm to employees, managers, and others in the workplace. These actions can be perpetrated by employees, customers, clients, or even external individuals.
Andrew Williams has worked at a major Melbourne Hospital and was responsible for addressing Workplace Violence and Aggression.
All plans should address this through risk assessment and implementation of appropriate response processes.

FAQs
How often should we run an exercise?
This is dependent upon your business and risk. The usual minimum standard is one exercise per year. You may choose to run a couple of smaller scenarios through the year, but as a minimum for an Incident Management Team, one exercise per year.
What is the difference between a drill and an exercise?
A drill is an activity that all staff and all occupants are involved in. An exercise is usually limited to the core Incident Management Team and their internal Subject Matter Experts.
Can you use a scenario for a drill?
Yes, at Wilcons we recommend that you provide the Chief Warden with a scenario. This will provide more meaning to the Warden team. A scenario for a lockdown drill is also extremely useful at ensuring harm to participants is reduced.
What is the best way to work out what we should be basing our drill on?
Always base your scenario on a higher rated risk. This will make it more meaningful for participants and will importantly allow you to test your plans against an actual risk.
Can Wilcons help us with our risk assessment?
Yes, absolutely! What we do know is that the best outcome for businesses conducting a risk assessment, is having all key stakeholders involved in the process. This will mean that your team will know the background to why the risk level is where it is at. Involving the team is the best way to get a full focus on your risks.
At Wilcons we can run risk assessment sessions with you and your team. This can be run in-person or remotely. Ask us more about this – click on the contact us tab opposite.
